The marshalltown Zombie Walk is an event created by civic minded individuals
in the community of Marshalltown to raise money and awareness for worthy causes. In the first year it was held, the Zombie
Walk raised $1270.00 for the Domestic Violence Alternatives and Sexual Assult Center (DVA/SAC).
This year, many of the same individuals who organized last year's event are
coming together to hold the event again with a dual cause in mind. The intended benefactors this year are the DVA/SAC and
the Marshalltown Skate Park Fund. Both causes are deserving in that the DVA/SAC currently provides the only shelter for domestic
violence victims in many counties. The Skate Park is a perfect outlet for the town's youth to have a place to go and practice
their hobby versus other less desirable outlets. This event is run solely on the sponsorship and private donations of the
community to ensure our causes see the largest donation possible.
This year, in addition to The Walk, there will also be "Steve The Zombie Sightings" to offer
the public who will not be able to attend, a chance to donate money and shelter items for the causes. These sightings will
start at the end of July on Fridays and run until the event is held. The event will conclude with activities on the courthouse
square including a concert of local music, a Jello Brains eating contest judged by local celebs, a silent auction and demonstrations
of local activites.
