A Zombie Walk is a group of individuals dressed like Zombies, walking from one point to another in public. They are
held across the world for various reasons ranging from no reason at all to fundraising events like ours! They are a fun, non-violent
way to get people together!
This is the question we get most of all. To put it simply allow us to quote Logan, a child who participated in the
first event:
"We dress like zombies to protect the people who are getting beat up, by
scaring away the bad guys." - Logan Lester, Age 10, Gliman, IA
When you drive down the street and see a few people gathered for local music, you may roll down your window, but do
you stop and see what is going on? Not usually. What if those participating in the event are dressed like The Living Dead
and marching down Main Street? Grabs your attention doesn't it?!
By hosting a Zombie Walk for our causes, we are able to reach an audience of volunteers and donators we could not reach
via a traditional fundraiser. Most who have the money to donate to a cause like this, may not support local music and those
who support local music and freedom of expression may not donate to causes. This gets everyone's attention! We also are proud
to keep it local by featuring sponsors who are local and being hosted at local venues: Riverview Park the first year, The
Colliseum the second, and now the Orpheum Theater!
- Why Domestic Violence Alternatives and Sexual Assault Center as a cause?
We chose to offer the funds raised at our event as a donation to the DVA/ SAC because they need it, badly. The sad
fact is that many in our community do not realize the need for the DVA in our community and others, and even if they do, they
are not sure how they can help! Our event answers that need. We give people a way to donate to a great cause, while raising
awareness of what exactly the DVA is and what they do.
- What do Zombies have to do with Domestic Violence or Sexual Assault?
Short answer: Nothing.
Long answer: Again, nothing grabs peoples attention quite like a family friendly event involving Zombies.
